Rosamaria Leon
ELL Program Review Specialist
New York City Department of Education

I have been working with the New York City Department of Education over 30 years. I began at the school level where I was a bilingual and ESL teacher for 12 years. I then moved on to the district level as Director of Second Language Programs for 15 years. In this capacity, I supervised the Bilingual, ESL and Foreign Language Programs for all the district schools in grades K – 12. At the Central level, I worked as an ELL Specialist for 2 years where I provided support specifically to District 79 (Alternative Schools for over-aged, pregnant and incarcerated teens). I am currently at the Regional level where I have been serving as the ELL Regional Instructional Specialist for Program Review for the past two years.

I hold three Master's Degrees from Hunter College : Bilingual Education; Reading Specialist; Administration and Supervision. I am also at the dissertation phase of a Doctoral Degree from Fordham University with an expected graduation date of December 2006.

Roseanne Riolo
Roseanne M. Riolo comes to Eduscape with a wide range of experiences within the educational arena. Trained as a Corporate Quality Consultant for New York Life Insurance Company, Roseanne facilitated quality teams in the Total Quality Management (TQM) methodology in an effort help these teams identify strengths and areas for improvement for continued success. Upon receipt of her Masters in English from the City University of New York, Roseanne brought her corporate training into the high school classrooms of Cardinal Hayes High School and St. Catharine Academy both in the Bronx, Woodlands Middle High School in Hartsdale, and Nanuet High School in Rockland County, and found that language arts students benefited greatly from utilizing her various methodologies in their writing. She has also taught writing at Herbert H. Lehman College of the City University of New York as an adjunct in a young adult program. Roseanne also received a Journalism Fellowship from the University of South Florida, taught journalism for three years, and consulted on various newspapers for high schools. She received extensive training in the International Baccalaureate Program for the Middle Years. In her current position, Roseanne is Skills Coordinator at a local high school under the Archdiocese of New York and has been instrumental in implementing various programs such as the Read 180 skills program into her curriculum.
Roseanne recently received her Masters in School Administration from the College of New Rochelle and is a professional member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the National Council of Teachers of English. She will be listed in the upcoming 2007 editions of Who’s Who Among American Teachers and the National Honor Roll for Outstanding Teachers. Her philosophy is that all children can learn if nurtured with the right tools and the opportunity.
